About

The Orange County School Board considered building a new elementary school to accommodate the growth at the east end of the county in 1988. Thomas Short, the first principal of Locust Grove Elementary School, assisted in carrying out the vision concerning the needs of the community and worked with the school board and several committees which established objectives, philosophy, and physical characteristics of the new facility.  In the fall of 1990, Locust Grove Elementary School opened.  In the fall of 2012, Locust Grove Elementary School became Locust Grove Primary School due to continued growth at the east end of the county. LGES moved to its current location at 31208 Constitution Highway in the Summer 2014. The building is the former home of Locust Grove Middle School. Approximately 450 students in grades 3, 4, and 5 attend the school.
